Hey, bestie! 🌺 You’re reading a free edition of Good, Better, Bestie, a weekly personal development newsletter dedicated to building yourself up while everything else is burning down. Want in? Subscribe now to join the party.👇
Okay, so most of us have heard that looking at nature—even just in photographs—can actually help you feel less stressed, but have you ever tried it for yourself?
Take a few seconds, and let’s experiment:
I want you to think about this photo. Maybe even look at the full screen version here, and take a deep breath. Tune out the rest of the world, tap into your imagination, and go beyond what you see:
What does this photo sound like? Can you imagine the rushing of the waves? Birds calling to each other? The trees rustling in the wind? Is there a boat rushing past in the distance?
What does it feel like? Can you feel the sun warming your skin? A light breeze brushing across your arms? Did you hike up to this spot? Or are you sitting on a blanket, simply enjoying the moment?
What other sensations might you experience? Does it smell a certain way? Can you taste the salty air? Does the air feel easier to breathe in?
Sit with these feelings for a moment, and take a few more deep breaths. Think about how looking at this photo—experiencing this photo—changes your physical experience of the real world. I don’t know about you, but I can close my eyes and daydream about how wonderful the sun might feel on my skin. My breath slows just a smidge, my shoulders drop an inch, and everything feels easier…just for a moment.
These little breaks make a big difference in how we go about our daily lives. Instead of rushing through, don’t underestimate the power of taking a moment—appreciating the world around you (even virtually!)—and letting yourself breathe.
You’re doing great, friend. 💕🌊💫
Y’all know I’m obsessed with making playlists, so obviously I made one inspired by early 2000s teen movies. Tune in and soak up the good feels.
Maintaining friendships as an adult is hard, but I think I’ve discovered the secret.
